The Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department issued an order and mentioned that significant quantities of heroin have recently been seized in several parts of the state.
Between May 22 and May 28, the department seized 88,030 grams of heroin in 5 different locations in Serchhipn district; while 38,680 grams of heroin were seized at two different locations in Lunglei district.
Meanwhile, the department also seized 13,620 grams of heroin from Siaha district.
The Excise and Narcotics Department on Sunday confiscated 262 grams of heroin belonging to three people – Vanneihmawii (22) d/o Engliana (L) R/O Phunchawng Mel 7; Lalthazuala (26) n/a H. Lalrinawma R/O Champhai Vengthar and C. lalrinliana (29) n/a Piangchungnunga R/O Phunchawng.
Those apprehended were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 (NDPS).
Several drug seizures have recently been reported in various districts of Mizoram. The Excise and Narcotics Department has made a clear appeal to the general public, the church and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to help control the influx of drugs into the state.
