Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has sanctioned ₹730 crore for the construction of the country’s second National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics (NACIN) and will lay its foundation (Bhumi Puja) on the 5th march to Palasamudram in Anantapur district.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is also expected to attend ‘Bhumi Puja’ at NACIN’s 35-acre site on the northern embankment of Palasamudram Reservoir.

The academy was sanctioned in 2014 under the promises of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act and then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley laid the foundation stone on April 11, 2015 .

NACIN will facilitate the training of 80 Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers, more than 1,000 Group A or Group I officers from Andhra Pradesh and other states to work in the commodity tax section and government services.

Chairman of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBIC), Vivek Jhori, Member, Administration, Sangeeta Sarma, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Karnataka M. Srinivas, Additional Managing Director and NACIN Project Manager, G. Narayanaswamy, visited the site on Saturday to oversee preparations for the laying of the foundation stone.

The academy will be used in the future as a maritime training center to analyze the smuggling of contraband and narcotics through ships and containers. The Palasamudram facility will have a built-up area of ​​92,000 square meters for which tenders will be launched on Monday. In addition to classrooms and training centers, it will have hostels for trainees, a residence for the staff employed there and guest rooms for visiting professors and subject matter experts from other cities. or country.

India has a link with SAARC countries to train its officers in customs, tax etc. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials will be trained here besides providing them with mock airport and sea container landing place for real-time narcotics scanning, Anantapur Customs Superintendent said , Mr. Srikanth Reddy.

Once commissioned, the facility will offer refresher courses for company-sponsored tax and customs candidates, licensed GST practitioners and customs officers to obtain a license, as well as a course special certified for agents. All State Government Group I officers assigned to trade taxes will also be trained here.
