Cairo: The 109th Ministerial Session of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) of the Arab League began its work on Thursday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League, chaired by Egypt and with the participation of Arab Ministers of Economy , Commerce and Finance.

The State of Qatar delegation to the session was led by the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League, HE Salem Mubarak Al Shafi.

The draft agenda includes several important items, including the establishment of the Council of Arab Ministers in charge of Education Affairs, the economic and social issues of the Council of Arab Leagues in its 31st session, the 5th Arab Summit of the economic and social development in Mauritania 2023, following the implementation of the decisions of the 4th session of the Arab Summit for Economic and Social Development in Beirut in January 2019 and Arab international cooperation in the social and development fields.

The draft agenda also includes an item on the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, Customs Union Developments, Working Mechanism of Committees Concerned with Arab Economic Integration, Investment in Arab Countries , the agreement regulating the technical and financial procedures of the maritime transport of passengers and goods between the Arab countries, supporting tourism innovation and smart tourism, an article on the creation of an Arab Ministerial Council in charge of the affairs of local bodies (municipalities and village councils) in Arab countries.

The preparatory meetings for this session concluded on Wednesday with a meeting at the level of senior officials, in which Qatar participated with a delegation representing the ministries of finance, trade and industry, social affairs and family, and the General Customs Authority.

It was preceded by two separate meetings of the Economic and Social Committees of the Board.
