Srinagar, July 19 (KNS): Two militants, including a senior commander from Lashkar-e-Taiba, were killed in a clash with security forces in the Sidiq-Khan area of Shopain in South Kashmir, have officials announced Monday.
In a statement to the Kashmir Press Service (KNS), police said that by acting on specific information generated by Shopian police regarding the presence of militants in the area of Check-i-Sidique Khan village of Shopian , a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 34RR and 178BN CRPF in the said area.
“During the search operation, when the presence of militants was established, they were given the opportunity to surrender on several occasions, however, they indiscriminately fired at the Joint Search Team who suffered blows. retaliation leading to a meeting, ”police said.
He said that during the meeting that followed, two terrorists from the outlawed militant group LeT were killed and their bodies were recovered from the meeting site.
Police said they were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, resident of Hafshirmal Shopian, commander-in-chief of the outlawed militant group LeT, active since 2017, and Majid Iqbal Bhat, son of Mohammad Iqbal. Bhat, resident of Melibagh Imamsahab, Shopian.
“According to police records, the two terrorists killed were part of groups involved in various militant crime cases and several terrorist crime cases have been registered against them,” police said.
“It is relevant to mention that the slain terrorist Ishfaq Ahmad Dar had been active since 2017 and was among the list of the most wanted militants,” the police statement said.

“Equipment, weapons and ammunition, including 2 AK-47 rifles and 08 magazines, were recovered from the site of the meeting,” the statement said.
All recovered materials have been placed in files for further investigation and to investigate their complicity in other terrorist crimes.
IGP Kashmir congratulated the Joint Police and Security Force Team for conducting a successful operation in a professional manner by neutralizing the most wanted terrorist without any collateral damage.
“In this regard, the police have registered a case under the relevant articles of the law and an investigation has been opened,” he said.
